Chestermere, originally called Chestermere Lake until 1993, became a city in 2015 after experiencing a high rate of growth. As of 2019, the population sits at nearly 20,000 and continues to see new developments popping up. Chestermere is located within Rocky View County about 5 minutes east of Calgary and 25 minutes from the downtown core. This unique city surrounds Chestermere Lake and was once the Summer Village of Chestermere Lake which was an appealing place for families to spend their summers by the water. During this time, more infrastructure and development began to bring in more businesses, services and amenities.
Families have found Chestermere to be a relaxing and peaceful area to live in that offers multitudes of amenities for easy living and recreation. Residents here enjoy the proximity to the city of Calgary, but also the seclusion and serenity of being away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Chestermere Housing Market
The beautiful city of Chestermere has seen immense growth in the past few decades, and with that came expansions and developments to accommodate the growing demand. Many new developments are still emerging to offer new residents elegant, modern homes with new appliances, features, spacious yards and garages fit for all families. Most of the homes are single-family and detached in one of the many neighbourhoods. However, you will also find some attached homes, townhomes, and high-density buildings with elegant condos for those not needing as much space or who are on a lower budget.
The lake is a big selling factor in Chestermere. Originally used for irrigation by farmers, now is a popular spot for boating, swimming, water sports and kayaking. Being a few minutes’ drive from Calgary means that Chestermere residents can take advantage of all that the big city has to offer while living in a quaint lakeside community. This is especially convenient for those who work in Calgary and must travel there daily. But, Chestermere has lots to offer in terms of recreation, shopping and dining.
For those who like to be active and healthy, there are countless sports facilities and fields including those for soccer, baseball diamonds, hockey rinks and tennis courts. The Lakeside Golf Club is a popular golf course for residents in the summer. The Chestermere Regional Community Association offers all kinds of activities, programs and events for the whole family. And of course, Chestermere Lake is there for swimming, paddling and water sports.
For all shopping needs, the main commercial area in Chestermere has everything including Safeway and Shoppers Drug Mart as well as many restaurants like Boston Pizza and Browns Socialhouse. Big box stores like Walmart and Costco are situated at a 5-minute drive at the East Hills Shopping Centre.
Some of the big events and attractions the city holds annually are the Winter Festival and the Chestermere Water Festival which brings the city together as a whole to celebrate during those times of the year.
Chestermere Local Schools
Families with school-aged children living in Chestermere are served by amazing schools right in the city. The schools are run by the Rocky View Schools authority as well as the Calgary Catholic School District. You’ll find schools for children of all ages and programs including preschools, catholic schools, french immersion schools and private schools. Some of these include Prairie Waters Elementary School, Rainbow Creek Elementary School, St. Gabriel the Archangel, Chestermere Lake Middle School and Chestermere High School.
